Rachael Dewar - Principal
Rachael established Rachael Dewar Law in 2010. She was a partner for 12 years at Tripe Matthews & Feist of Wellington, leading the Family Law team and has over 30 years experience specialising in this area. She has expertise in all aspects including relationship property, pre-nuptial agreements, parenting and relocation, adoption and surrogacy arrangements.
As a senior Lawyer for Child and an accredited FDR (Family Dispute Resolution) Mediator she has many years hands-on experience in the court mediation role. Rachael is a long standing member of the Wellington branch Family Law Committee of the NZ Law Society and is currently on the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the NZLS. In November 2019, Rachael was Chair of the NZLS Family Law Conference, attended by over 400 family lawyers and other experts from NZ and overseas.

Sarah McGovern - Solicitor
Originally from Ireland, Sarah joined Rachael Dewar Law in January 2019. Previously Sarah worked in Nelson specialising in family law as well as with Oranga Tamariki. She has also worked in general practice as a barrister in Ireland. Sarah is experienced in complex Court cases for Oranga Tamariki and also in private practice. Sarah is client focused, has very good case management skills and a strong ability to relate to and empathise with a variety of people.
Sarah acts as a Lawyer for Child and works with private clients as well as those eligible for Legal Aid on a wide range of family law issues including relationship property, contracting out agreements and childcare disputes.
Sarah graduated from Kings Inns, Dublin with a Bachelor of Law in 2006, was admitted as a Barrister at Law in Ireland in 2006, and as a Barrister and Solicitor in the New Zealand High Court in 2010.

Amy Gulbransen - Associate Solicitor
Amy joined Rachael Dewar Law in July 2018 after spending a number of years specialising in family law in Nelson. Amy has experience in all aspects of family law with a particular interest in care of children, domestic violence and relationship property matters. In Nelson, Amy gained invaluable experience acting in a number of cases before the Family Court, including under the Oranga Tamariki Act, and in a wide range of guardianship disputes. She has relocated to Wellington and is looking forward to expanding her knowledge in trust and relationship property work.>
Amy acts for private clients, as well as those eligible for legal aid. She is a member of the Family Section of the New Zealand Law Society and the Wellington Family Courts’ Association and volunteers at the Wellington Community Law Centre.>

bar in 2013 after spending some time travelling and working overseas.

Ruby Hey - Solicitor
Ruby joined Rachael Dewar Law in March 2019 as a law clerk after finishing her professional legal studies. She has a strong interest in family law and is excited about gaining experience in all aspects of family law. She was admitted as a Barrister & Solicitor in June 2019.
Ruby volunteers at the Wellington Community Law Centre at the family law sessions. She was previously involved in the Student Rights Service as part of the Community Justice Project. There she provided information to parents struggling with issues relating to their children’s school.
Ruby graduated from Victoria University in 2018 with a conjoint degree in Bachelor of Law and Arts, majoring in International Relations and Political Science.
Kusum Ravji – Practice Manager
Kusum joined Rachael Dewar Law in August 2019. She holds a Bachelor of Business Studies and her background is in financial management with both the private and public sector. Kusum has over 15 years’ experience in the legal industry as a Practice Manager and Accountant in financial reporting, payroll and human resource management.
Kusum is responsible for maintaining work systems, procedures, policies and compliance with Anti-Money Laundering regulations. Other duties include overseeing and improvement of practice operations, debtor management and financial administration.
She is also available to answer any administrative queries you may have with your file. This enables the rest of the team to focus on client matters.
